Grants Coordinator

Aisha Fikirini is a dedicated and highly skilled researcher with extensive experience in molecular biology, microbiology, molecular physiology and natural products chemistry. With a strong academic foundation, she holds a Master of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Dar es Salaam and a Bachelor of Education in Science (Chemistry and Biology) from Saint Augustine University of Tanzania. Her academic and professional journey reflects her commitment to advancing science for impactful, real-world applications.

Aisha is currently a Grants Coordinator at URU Research and Development Group, where she excels in managing and coordinating research funding opportunities. In this role, she oversees the preparation, submission, and administration of grant proposals, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and alignment with the organization’s strategic goals. Her expertise in research and project management positions her as a vital contributor to the success of URU Research Group’s initiatives.

Previously, Aisha contributed to cutting-edge research as a Researcher at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), focusing on advanced gene therapy for sickle cell disease. Her responsibilities included screening newborns for sickle cell disease, collecting and processing cord blood, stem cells isolating and quantifying stem cells as well as grants and reports writing.

In collaboration with Uppsala University in Sweden, Aisha worked on bioactive compound discovery from microbial sources, where she demonstrated her expertise in isolating microbes, conducting molecular identification, performing bioassays, and characterizing bioactive compounds using advanced spectroscopic techniques. This international experience expanded her research capabilities and strengthened her global scientific network.

Beyond her professional achievements, Aisha is an avid learner and enjoys reading scientific literature, accessing information from various media, and staying updated on current events. She is passionate about leveraging her expertise to address pressing societal challenges, particularly in healthcare and sustainable development.

With her solid academic background, proven research expertise, and exceptional organizational skills, Aisha Fikirini continues to make significant contributions to advancing science and supporting impactful research initiatives in Tanzania and beyond.
